On-Country Cultural Research with Wulli Wulli People

Earlier this year, Everick Foundation was privileged to accompany Wulli Wulli Nation Aboriginal Corporation directors, Elliot Anderson and Shane Cook and Elder Uncle Rodney, on Country to survey the landscape and take rock art dating samples.

We spent several days with the Wulli Wulli on country after a Welcome to Country ceremony which brought a young Wulli Wulli artist, onto his people’s land for the first time. During this trip, we learnt about their culture, heard stories, documented sacred sites, and got to know each other.

My role on this trip was to document a petroglyph site using LiDAR technology and photogrammetry techniques, a process spanning a few days. Following our departure, I dedicated time to digitally transform the accumulated photography and LiDAR data into an accurate 3D recreation. This representation serves as preservation and understanding for the Wulli Wulli people as this can now be passed onto researchers to help evaluate its significance. A video of this Wulli Wulli research project can be seen below.

Special thanks to Shane for sharing his journey and artwork within the video.
